The Old School House, Second Friday Lecture Series
On October 8, 2021 the lecture will focus on my investigative and creative journey that guided the development of my Art+Humanities project, Contradictions – Bringing The Past Forward© at The Old School House at Desert Institute at Joshua Tree National Park.
I will discuss how a discovery almost two years ago inspired me to develop a visual interpretation of the stories of the African American homesteaders who settled in the far Eastern Mojave Desert in 1910. It will include my rationale and the creative process on which I’ve embarked. As a female artist of color who lives and works in the desert, their stories provide a cultural relevance of the homesteaders’ experiences in the context and contrast of my own lived experience.
